poverty AND welfare

John has always championed the right of people to a life free from poverty, and believes that in a wealthy society like ours no-one should suffer hunger or be unable to heat their homes.  Yet high rents, soaring utility bills, falling wages and insufficient welfare support leave many hard working families without the money for basics like food and school uniforms.  John will continue to fight against austerity and argue that the brutal assault on the welfare of our most vulnerable is a political choice and not an economic necessity.
